Bell Let's Talk 2026: Taking a moment for a different kind of ‘toolbox talk’

TORONTO – Today is  Canada’s national day for conversations about mental health awareness.

This year’s theme is taking a moment for mental health. Whether it’s moment for yourself, a moment for a friend or a moment for a co-worker, it all matters.

While it’s no secret the construction industry hasn’t always been focused on mental health, in recent years the topic has come to the forefront with many organizations, unions, companies and the like making it a priority.

This week alone marks a milestone with the inaugural uilding Trades Mental Health Week, organized by Canada’s Building Trades Unions (CBTU).

The week was formed to highlight mental health and substance use resources that are available to members.

It follows a September CBTU report that sheds light on the unique stressors impacting tradespeople.

The Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commerce cover mental health initiatives, reports and issues throughout the year, identifying trends and the strides that continue to be made.

For Bell Let’s Talk Day we’ve compiled a list of some pertinent articles that were published last year, with the hope of helping to further spread awareness.

Whether onsite, in the office or at home, Canadians are being encouraged to prioritize mental health and give mental health the moment it deserves:

  • Moments to take care of and be in tune with your own mental health;
  • moments to reach out to those around you, caring for their mental health;
  • and moments to recognize the societal importance of mental health, which can take many forms – from flag raisings, school assemblies, sharing personal stories, to learning and listening.
