642 homes slated for construction near West Harbour GO station in Hamilton

HAMILTON, ONT. — Through a Minister’s Zoning Order (MZO) the Province of Ontario has given the go-ahead to construct up to 642 new homes at 405 James St. N. (Jamesville) near the West Harbour GO Station in Hamilton.

According to a release, in order to address pent-up housing demand, the City of Hamilton requested Ontario issue an MZO in January 2025. Vacant since 2019, the province is helping to accelerate redevelopment of Jamesville, allowing CityHousing Hamilton, Indwell and the Jamesville Redevelopment Limited Partnership to revitalize the site with new apartment buildings and townhouses that include up to 210 affordable units.

The City of Hamilton is still responsible for obtaining other approvals for the Jamesville site, including site plan and consulting with conservation authorities.

From 2019 to 2022, the City of Hamilton undertook public engagement, including public open houses, for the vision and design of the Jamesville site, the release adds.
