MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Mississauga City Council has approved a  to extend the city’s development charges incentive program through Dec. 31, 2027, giving the development industry an additional year to “take advantage of the incentives so they can continue planning and delivering much-needed housing for Mississauga families.”

The program launched in January 2025 and was “enhanced” in February of this year, a release reads.

It offers the following development charge reductions for residential properties:

  • 50 per cent for all residential unit types
  • 100 per cent for purpose-built apartment rental units
  • Applies to one-bedroom plus den, two-bedroom or three-bedroom units
  • 25-year rental tenure agreement required

When the program launched, it included a Nov.13, 2026 deadline to pull building permits.

Now, to be eligible for the incentives, developers have until Dec. 31, 2027 to pull a building permit, the release adds.
