NextStar Energy’s mega battery facility celebrates grand opening in Windsor
NEXTSTAR ENERGY — Representatives recently celebrated the official grand opening of NextStar Energy Inc.’s 4.23 million-square-foot Windsor EV battery facility.

WINDSOR, ONT.— It was a monumental day Thursday as various dignitaries, politicians and other representatives marked the official grand opening of4.23 million-square-foot Windsor facility.

A release states it is Canada’s first commercial-scale advanced battery manufacturing facility.

“Since production began in November 2025, the company has already produced over one million battery cells and hired more than 1,300 highly skilled workers, with 1,200 more jobs expected once at full operational capacity,” it reads. “Today’s event served to reaffirm NextStar Energy’s $5 billion commitment to Ontario, while demonstrating the resilience, reliability and competitiveness of the province’s investment climate.”

Word of the project began in March 2022 when a joint venture was announced betweenLG Energy Solution and Stellantis for the large-scale EV battery manufacturing facility.

This year, however, LG Energy Solution announced they are purchasing Stellantis’ equity stake to become the full owner of the facility.

Construction on the facility began in November 2022 with an Alberici-Barton Malow JV at the helm as design-builder.

The final structural beam was installed in December 2024 and in October 2025 battery module production began.

By September 2025 construction was officially complete, NextStar notes.
