VANCOUVER — The City of Vancouver is seeking public feedback on ideas for .
From now until Dec. 12, those who are interested can review draft directions for how the villages could grow along with maps tailored to each location, showing where apartment buildings and businesses could go.
These villages are one of six neighbourhood types identified in the and the draft .
Centered around existing small retail clusters, the goal is to transform these areas into hubs with a range of housing options, shops and services, and public spaces within a short walk, bike or roll from work or home, a release reads.
Feedback received through initial public engagement in November 2024, combined with technical work and analysis, helped shape the draft directions, which include:
- Adding more housing options:Introducing a range of housing types, up to six storey.
- Supporting retail hubs:Adding more space for local businesses and services.
- Improving public spaces:Creating opportunities for safer, greener, more walkable streets and welcoming public spaces.
A draft Villages Plan is anticipated to be considered by city council in 2026. Once approved, the final Villages Plan will be implemented over time through a combination of private development and city-initiated rezonings to streamline the delivery of new housing and the expansion of retail areas, the release adds.
