SUDBURY, ONT. — Global engineering group Sandvik is investing more than $85 million to establish a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Greater Sudbury that will sustain 400 existing jobs and create more than 60 new jobs, the province reports.
The new 135,000-square-foot facility, which broke ground earlier this month, will deliver double the existing workshop capacity and incorporate workshop areas, expanded office space, welding facilities, a paint booth, BEV-dedicated infrastructure, and a technology-focused simulator area for equipment operators and maintenance training purposes.
It will replace Sandvik’s long-standing location at 100 Magill St. in Lively, which has supported customers for more than 40 years.
The design prioritizes circularity, waste reduction, energy efficiency and efforts to minimize environmental impact, Sandvik notes.
To support of this investment, Ontario is providing up to $4 million in funding through the .
The new facility scheduled to officially open in Q3 2027.
