EDMONTON — Graham Construction recently announced the official opening of the Edmonton-Strathcona County Footbridge.
At the grand opening ceremony, it was revealed it has been named Amisk Wâciw Âsokan, meaning Beaver Hills Bridge.
Construction began in June 2023 following engagement with stakeholder groups dedicated to sustainable development in the North Saskatchewan River Valley, explains a release. The new crossing connects northeast Edmonton to Strathcona County and links into more than 100 kilometres of trails throughout the valley, including a continuous route from Devon to Fort Saskatchewan.
The bridge features concrete gathering areas at both ends, shared asphalt pathways and a concrete bridge deck topped with a flexible wearing surface.
There are also lookouts positioned above each pier, with canopy structures and precast concrete benches.
